In my world, it's never too early to start considering the upcoming season even though it's still 118 days, 15 hours, 20 minutes and 5 seconds away, give or take a few.
Fortunately, I'm not the only one thinking along those lines. Already, some of college football's best minds - OK, that might be stretching things - have put out nine different pre-season rankings.So, how do the Tigers stack up thus far?
No. 2 - College Football News, College Sports TV, Sports Illustrated and The Times-Picayune
No. 3 - Rivals.com and Sporting News
No. 4 - CBS and NationalChamps.net
No. 6 - Atlanta Journal Constitution
No. 10 - ESPN
That leaves LSU with an average ranking of 3.7 (or a 3 if we throw out that ridiculously low ranking from ESPN).
SportsBetting.com offers another perspective. The Web site puts LSU's odds for winning the BCS national championship this season at 10-1, the fourth-best behind Florida and Michigan which tie at 8-1 and USC which tops the list at 5-2.
Here's one final ranking: NBC says that LSU's Sept. 8 home opener against Virginia Tech will be the second-best non-conference game of the college football regular season.
Of course, there's still plenty of time for opinions to change before the first whistle blows in Tiger Stadium on Sept. 2.

I think I read that New Orleans will host both the Sugar Bowl and the BCS bowl next year--- seems like unfair homefield advantage for those Bayou Bengals if you ax me...
