Joshua Tree City

Sitting outside the west entrance to the national park that shares its name, Joshua Tree City offered a crunchy-granola contrast to nearby Twentynine Palms.
The compact main-street strip along Highway 62 includes a few cafes, a coffeeshop and some art stores.

In the middle of it all we found this gay-friendly, double-entendre billboard sponsored by the Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce. The text reads, "Be extra careful when camping in the park . . . Fires are a real drag!" (emphasis added).

Sunset from our motel.
