Spring bloom

We found acres of wildflowers blanketing the entrance to Coyote Canyon just north of Borego Springs in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The drive took about 2-1/2 hours from San Diego. Click on any image to view it full-sized.GETTING THERE: From Borrego Springs, head north on Di Giorgio Road until it becomes unpaved. In case you're wondering, the dark green squares in the above satellite image are lemon and orange groves. It's amazing what a little irrigation can do in the desert.
Yellow brown-eyed evening primrose.
Arizona lupine.
Rex liked the sweet smell of nectar that filled the air but he was troubled by the thick coat of pollen that dusted the lower legs of his blue jeans.
Purple mat.
Canterbury bells.
Fishhook cactus.
Desert sunflower.
Dune evening primrose.
Blue phacelia.

Me in a patch of ubiquitous desert-sand verbena.

It amazes me, even at my advanced age of 7x6, just how many shades of purple there are! Thanks for showing so many hues. Gorgeous photos!
